Abstract:
Geometry is a basic skill to be mastered. It is important in architecture and design, in engineering and in various aspects of construction work. However, in Nigerian education system, the process of teaching and learning geometry does not reflect its importance. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of Dynamic Geometry Software GeoGebra on Van Hiele geometry understanding level of students at secondary school geometry course. The study was conducted with pre and posttest control group quasi-experimental method. The sample of the study was 200 secondary school students. “Van Hiele Level of Geometric Understanding Test” (GUT) developed by Usiskin (2006) was used as the data collecting tool of this study. Van Hiele Level of Geometric Understanding Test has 25 items. The result was explained by the computer assisted instructional method applied in the experimental group and the learning environment provided by the dynamic geometry software GeoGebra. It was discovered that performance is dependent on the method of instruction adopted.
