Globally, the issue of sustainability of developmental processes has dominated each and every aspect of human endeavour. Sustainability science is a new multidisciplinary approach to science that recognises the limitations of traditional scientific enquiry in dealing with the complex reality of social institutions interacting with natural phenomena. This paper examines how sustainability science can be integrated with sustainable development. It further discuss how sustainability science was used in seeking to improve limited understanding of nature-society interactions in recent decades as well as the difficulties of sustainability science in under-developed nations especially Africa and concluded that discussion is needed within scientific communities, of the approach, its key questions, methods of inquiry, and institutional needs.
